Number eight? We seriously considered it, but decided that seven children in a relatively-small house, our ages (42/40 when we made the decision; now 43/41), two teenagers that would be horrified to hear their mom was pregnant, and economic considerations (read: college tuition) justified more NFP. Of course, NFP hasn't been highly effective for us (6/7s were unwanted pregnancy), so who knows what the future holds, but if the NF planning works, we're done.

Wow, Eric, we've shared broadly similar paths... My wife and I will celebrate the 23rd anniversary of our first date next Feb. 14. And we have 7 kids, that is to say born ones. We should be taking the lead on you guys a couple weeks.

Misery? I don't see any soup lines snaking around block after block. I do see people using Bridge Cards to take up to $100 of cash back, to buy cigarettes, alcohol, and massive quantities of junk food. Perhaps the misery this time around is centered on the loss of wealth...it certainly isn't on the loss of vices or waistline.

Marie, I almost never put your husband and the term "funny" in the same sentence. But, that could just be a by-product of his profession.

I first met my wife 23 years ago today. We met in a bar in Ann Arbor, Michigan. A real “meat market,” a place where amorous young men look for loose co-eds.

It just goes to show: It’s always possible to find a gem among the skanks.

She did (chuckle).

Isn't my husband just the funniest thing ever?
