    1. Rob Sisson Says:

The GOP lost, significantly, faith based voters (relative to past elections) and Hispanic voters. Hispanic voters are projected to represent about 35% of voters in 2016 (by 2050, they might be the majority). Hispanic voters are strongly pro-family, pro-traditional marriage, and pro-life. The key is for the GOP to lose the KKK robes and start formulating policies that appeal to immigrants. Faith based voters now recognize that the GOP’s single “faith” position (opposing abortion) isn’t enough…that we need to do better on Matthew 25:35. GOP needs to move quickly to lure back these voters.

    2. MikeL Says:

I’m beginning to wonder if the GOP “brand” has reached the point of no return, after nearly 50 years of pounding by the entertainment and education industries. Republican-bashing, at least it seems to me, seems to be an integral part of our social fabric – and I don’t know how that can be overcome without a long march through the media and educational establishment.

Hispanic voters may be strongly pro-family, pro-traditional marriage, and pro-life, but they overwhelmingly vote Democrat, and have at least since Jimmy Carter ran in ’76 (I didn’t look beyond that). How do you break that cycle?

    3. Rob Sisson Says:

The primary way is to welcome them to the US, give them a path to citizenship. That’s all. Republican (traditional)positions are closer to Latino values…it is our overt and covert racism that has pushed them to the Dems for so many years. In California, the Republican party pushed an anti-immigrant amendment…and now Republicans in California are as rare as Bigfoot in the Upper Peninsula.

“I was a stranger, and you welcomed me.” From Christ’s lips to the RNC ears.

In talking with many employers in the area, they speak highly of the Hispanic work ethic and the fact that Hispanics view work as a privilege, not a right. Hispanic values are very similar to traditional R’s….it’s just our party’s rabid xenophobia that scares the heck out of them.

"The Daily Eudemon is the sort of thing that Chesterton or Mencken would be doing, if they were alive today. It's what, in saner times, was called journalism. In the writing and in the reading, it's exactly the sort of leisure we should want at the basis of culture."
Mike Aquilina, Author of The Fathers of the Church and TV Talk Show Host.

"Literate Catholicism-urbane, witty, engaged-is alive and well! If you can read, you should be reading The Daily Eudemon!" David Scott, author of A Revolution of Love: The Meaning of Mother Teresa

"If you like your blogs pithy, nimble, pointed, high-spirited, and waggish, then bookmmark Eric Scheske's The Daily Eudemon. Ooops! You want prolixity, density, meandering, dull, and sober? Then run (do not walk!) to the blogs of the major news outlets. They have just what you want. Honestly they do." John Peterson, Editor, G.K. Chesterton: Collected Works, Volumes 12 and 13.

"Eric Scheske's web site is full of information and insight.  Always worth a read."  James V. Schall, Author of Another Sort of Learning.

"Eric Scheske has one of the few indispensable sites in an overcrowded blogosphere." Thomas E. Woods, Jr., Ph.D., New York Times Bestselling Author and Author of How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization.
